The Journeys to Africa

After 1945, Leni Riefenstahl was no longer able to reestablish herself in German cinema. She went to Africa and found her happiness in Sudan, among the NUBA people.

There, between 1963 and 1976, she filmed her last movie, "SEHNSUCHT NACH UNSCHULD".

Her photographs became world-famous, yet she never completed the film — why?

Fifty years after the shooting, we restored the original material, assembled it according to her patterns, and created an irreplaceable ethnographic film.

It presents Leni Riefenstahl as a curious director and a fascinated observer of a world untouched by modernity. It shows the NUBA people as they no longer exist today.
